Muuto’s family of seating under the Visu Chair moniker keeps expanding and the Sled Base: Upholstered model now takes a place in the line-up. Mika Tolvanen, of the Finnish Rehti Group, spent 2 years perfecting the original design (aptly named Visu—the Danish word for “precision.”) As it turned out, his unblinking specificity ultimately led to Visu’s many versions but it was his emphasis on workability that empowered the concept. “I do not have a dogma or ‘ism’ but I believe good design comes from understanding materials and from a desire to improve functionality,” Mika says. “An object can be complex in its variety of functions, but doesn’t have to be complicated.”
